Obituary for Lucia Zuniga (Farias)

Lucia Zuniga (Farias)
Lucia Farias Zuniga, ninety-six, of Paris, Kentucky, passed away February 3rd, 2017 at her home in Paris, Kentucky, with her family by her side. Lucia was preceded in death by her husband Pete Zuniga who passed away in 2012. Together, they raised and guided the family based on the principles and love of Jesus Christ. She is survived by her step sister Lydia Trevino and her step-brother Joseph Farias, both of San Antonio, Texas. Lucia was a dedicated and loving mother and leaves a legacy of love to be carried on in her thirteen living children and supportive spouses- Peter and Carron Zuniga, Paul and Twila Zuniga, David Zuniga, Lucia and Ronald Sparks, Irene Zuniga-Farias, Samuel and Josie Zuniga, Theresa and Tevis Gray, Gerard and Jill Zuniga, Susan and Cliff Purcell, Joseph and Jessica Zuniga, Patricia and Andrew Slonkosky, Maria Louise and Edward Slonkosky, and Adam Rene and Samantha Zuniga. Lucia is also survived by her sixty-seven grand-children, eighty-three great grandchildren, and, three great, great grandchildren. Lucia worked at the Bluegrass Textile Mills and volunteered at the Paris High School cafeteria in Paris, Kentucky.
Lucia’s entire life was dedicated to the loving and nurturing of her children and her children’s children. Our late father, Pete, wrote of her, “[She] worked hard at home raising a large family, cooking, washing, sewing, putting up lunches for her husband to take to work and or the children to take to school; seeing that they were dressed nice and clean before they left, cleaning house and caring for babies. After the youngest of the children started school she went to work for the Paris City School at the South Side cafeteria. After a few years there, she went to work for Kentucky Textiles from [which] she retired. She loved planting flowers, and a vegetable garden. [Lucia] planted fruit trees [in] her back yard and canned apples, vegetables. There is always fun and laughter when the family gets together at the Zuniga Family [house].” She is sorely missed by all. Lucia’s visitation will be held at Annunciation Church in Paris, Kentucky on Tuesday, February 7th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and her Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Annunciation Church on Wednesday, February 8th at 11:00 A.M.
