Maria Antoinette Balsemo, 80, retired Vice President of Blue Grass Federal Savings and Loan, wife of Samuel Balsemo, died Thursday, February 9, 2017. She was born November 2, 1936 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, daughter of the late Sebastian and Mary Cotonzaro Valenti. Marie was a member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation where she was active in the choir. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Jarl) Gustafson; son, Mark Balsemo; daughter-in-law, Janeese Balsemo; three grandchildren, James Marcus Balsemo, Brianna Balsemo, Blaine Balsemo; and four great grandchildren, Halia Balsemo, Anjelina Balsemo, Aries Balsemo, and Domonic Balsemo. A sister, Mildred “Midge” Chowning, preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation by Rev. Daniel Fister with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Annunciation Church Organ Fund.
