Obituary for Cecil H. Grimes

Cecil H.  Grimes
Cecil H. Grimes (LTC US Army-Ret), 93, husband of Ruth Lyle Grimes, died Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Thomson Hood Veterans Center. Col. Grimes was a 26 year veteran of the Army, serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. His decorations include: The Combat Medical Badge, The Senior Army Aviator Badge, The Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars (with Oak Leaf Clusters and ā€œVā€ Device), Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal, and Air Medals. He retired from the Army in 1970. His education included an AB degree from Transylvania University and MA from the University of Kentucky. He retired from teaching in 1984 after teaching Physics and Science at North Middletown High School, Harrison County High School, and Bourbon County High School. He was a member a member of North Middletown Christian Church for 76 years where he taught Sunday School, was an Elder, Trustee, and member of the choir. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Barry A. (Cynthia) Grimes, Richmond, Kentucky, and David L. Grimes, Little Rock, Kentucky; also three grandchildren, Erica Toland, Daniel Grimes, Emily Grimes; and two great grandchildren, Dorian and Kayla Toland. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, at the North Middletown Christian Church conducted by Rev. Stephanie Moon and Dr. William A. Curwood with burial in the North Middletown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Memorials are suggested to the North Middletown Christian Church, PO Box 43, North Middletown, KY 40357.
