Obituary for Watt Buchanan Jr.

Watt Buchanan Jr., 84, retired employee of Blue Grass Army Depot-Avon, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, husband of Phyllis Ann Monson Buchanan, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at his home. He was born May 10, 1933 in Bourbon County, son of the late Watt and Rosa Lee Tucker Buchanan. Watt attended Ruddles Mill School through the eighth grade and was a graduate of Bourbon County High School, an active member of Ruddles Mill Christian Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Chairman of the Board, and also volunteered as a youth Basketball coach. In addition to his wife, Watt is also survived by a son, Douglas (Linda) Buchanan; a daughter, Karen (Terry) Sargent; three grandchildren, Jeremy Buchanan, Kerri Montgomery, Ashley Roe; and four great grandchildren, Kenneth Clay Roe, Sullivan Montgomery, Sutton Montgomery, and Dallas Watt Roe. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Ellis Ray Buchanan. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 2, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. John McGuire and Doug Buchanan with burial in Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Steve Kearns, Tony Denniston, Tim Buchanan, Carl Hafley, Mike Kearns, and Steve Stanford. Honorary bearers will be Carl Bailey, Ronald Chanslor, and Howard Welch. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to Bluegrass Hospice Care.
