Obituary for Mary Josephine Cross (Thomas)

Mary Josephine Cross, 90, widow of Martin Denton Cross, died at Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris on April 25, 2018. Mrs. Cross was born in Warren County, Kentucky, the daughter of John H. and Ruby Dodson Thomas and was educated in the Warren County schools. She attended Western Kentucky University and was graduated from the Bowling Green College of Commerce. Mary Jo and Martin married in 1949. She later received a Masters’ Degree from the University of Kentucky.
Mary Jo taught school in Kentucky for 32 years, spending most of that time at Bourbon County High School where she taught business classes. She was a member of Bourbon County Homemakers and had been active in the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Clintonville Christian Church for over 50 years where she was a Deacon Emeritus and Sunday school teacher.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; a son, Stephen Lewis Cross; a sister, Nancy Lee Thomas; a brother, John Holmes Thomas, Jr.; and a grandson, Jacob Eric Lang. She is survived by three sons: Kent (Dora) of Kodiak, Alaska; Lyle (Linda) of Paris, Kentucky; and Glenn (Carmen) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Seven grandchildren survive her: Ryan Cross, Jenna Cross, Carter (Ashley) Cross, Kelly Cross, Andrew Cross, Kacy Cross, Spencer (Alla) Cross, and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29th at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Charles Kemp on April 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Clintonville Christian Church, 141 Austerlitz Road, Paris. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery at Albany, Kentucky on April 30 at 4:00 p.m. CST.
Casket Bearers will be Andrew Cross, Brian Thomas, Carter Cross, Jenna Cross, Kelly Cross, Mark Cross, Ryan Cross, and Spencer Cross.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested to be made to the Memorial Fund of Clintonville Christian Church or Bluegrass Hospice Care.
