Betty Jean Buchanan, 81, widow of Eugene Buchanan, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home. She was born November 3, 1930 in Bourbon County, daughter of the late Ollie and Mary Hopper Walling and was a member of Ruddles Mill Christian Church. Betty is survived by a son, Timothy A. (Martha) Buchanan, two granddaughters, Leslie (Chris) Martin, Taylor Buchanan; two great grandsons, Landon Martin, Easton Martin; two sisters, Sue (George) Sparks, Virginia Hughes; a brother, Jimmy Walling; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia; three sisters, Ruth Curtis, Bertha Hurley, Thelma Henson; and two brothers, Clarence \"Bud\" and Kenneth Walling. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Sam Chanslor with burial in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be Jerry Walling, Mike Sparks, Ronnie Henson, Keith Buchanan, Ronnie Buchanan, and Darryl Buchanan. Honorary bearers will be Ed Fitzpatrick, Jim Poe, and Johnny Mattox. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.
