Shawn Patrick Sparks, 43, a former letter carrier for the U.S. Postal service, U.S. Air Force veteran of Desert Storm, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Bourbon Community Hospital. He was born June 17, 1970 in Lexington, son of Ronald and Lucia Zuniga Sparks, Paris. Shawn was a 1988 graduate of Paris High School, an Eagle Scout with Troop #67, Boy Scouts of America, part of the BBB in Centerville, and was a member of Catholic Church of the Annunciation. In addition to his parents, Shawn is survived by a brother, Ronald G. (Misty) Sparks, Atlanta, GA; a sister, Tara R. (David) Casey, Stamping Ground, KY; maternal grandmother, Lucia Farias Zuniga, Paris; nieces and nephews, Nathaniel, Jeremiah, Jacob, Mariana, Nicholas, Morgan, Alexander; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Pete Zuniga Jr, and paternal grandparents, Ritsel and Christine Sparks. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation by Rev. Danny Fister with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ronald G. Sparks Jr., Dusty Cummins, David Casey, Tevis Gray Jr., Tom Witt, and Chris Holbrook. Honorary bearers will be Nathaniel Kjelstrom, Jeremiah Kjelstrom, Johnny Gay, Chris Zuniga, Greg Zuniga, Josh Cummins, Chad Hudnall, Jeremiah Perraut, Steve Reckmann, and Charlie Wyatt. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the church with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
