Obituary for Roy J. Long

Roy J. Long, 90, a retired farmer, U.S. Army veteran of World War II, husband of Mary Robinson Long, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Baptist Health Lexington. He was born January 27, 1926 in Bourbon County, son of the late Chester Lee and Martha Stigall Long, attended Ruddles Mill School, and was a member of River of Life Ministries. In addition to his wife of 33 years, Roy is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (John) Black, Paris; stepson, Henry Robinson, Paris; daughter-in-law, Clare Robinson, Alabama; four grandchildren, John (Tammy) Black, Paris, James Black, Georgetown, Amy (Matthew) McConnell, Andrea (Mark) Underwood, Paris; a brother, Stanley Long Salvisa; a sister, Mary Emma Shelley, Paris; sister-in-law, Geneva Long, Paris; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Wells Long; son, Harold Robinson; a sister, Dorothy Osborne; and four brothers, Kenneth, Sterling, Donald, and Bill Long. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Keith Hampton with burial in North Middletown Cemetery with military rites. Casket bearers will be Shawn Long, Kenney Long, Mike Long, Joe Black, Samuel Long, Johnny Ishmael, and Jeff Ishmael. Honorary bearers will be Steve Long, James Black, Larry Stevenson, Lorena Black, Karly Black, John Black Jr., J.D. Black, Tim Shelley, Bryan Shelley, Gary Platt, Homer Rader, Gene Elam, Gracie Underwood, and Addison Underwood. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
