Obituary for Clestus Cleo Ritchie

Clestus Cleo Ritchie, age 90, went to heaven, July 2nd, 2019 after a 51-year commitment of serving his beloved Savior. Clestus was born August 16, 1928 to the late Memphis and Effie Snapp Ritchie. He was a faithful member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He farmed most of his life, but also worked for the Paris Stockyard and tobacco warehouse. He was also employed by the Nicholas County school system as a bus driver and maintenance worker. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Juanita Gaunce Ritchie, two daughters, Diana (Jerry) Ritchie, Pam (Dennis) Ritchie, both of Nicholas County. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Michael Ritchie, Jennifer Deaton, Emmie Ferrell, Ivie Turner, Daniel Ritchie, and Bryan Ritchie, as well as 12 great grandchildren, and one sister, Leota Fryman.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen, three brothers, Junius, Donnie, and Dovolee, and three sisters, Verna Ritchie, Chloteen Steele and Roberta Murrell.
Services will be held at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2019, with Rev. Brenda Routt and Rev. Jerry Watkins officiating. A private burial at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery will be at a later date. The family request visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
