Obituary for Betty Lou Courtney (Stanfield)

Betty Lou Stanfield Courtney, widow of Charles David Courtney, Sr., departed this life on December 26, 2022, at her residence, with loving family by her side, having attained the age of 88 years. Betty was born in Paris, Kentucky on May 16, 1934, the daughter of the late Robert Getsy and Cora Beatrice Stokley Stanfield, was a graduate of North Middletown High School, received her associate degree from Lexington Business College and was retired, having worked as an administrative assistant for Eastern State Hospital for many years. She was an avid U.K. sports fan, enjoyed watching her soap operas, game shows, and talking to her sisters as she had a deep love for each of them. Her favorite of all time was spending time with her family as they were her everything. She felt strongly that family was to be kind to each other and always be there for the other one. She was a member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation.

Surviving are her children, Patti C. Jones (Mike), Wanda Porter (Tom), John E. Courtney, Deborah C. Coons, Charles David Courtney, Jr. (Linda), Jo Ann Hill, Roy Courtney (Phyllis), Jan P. Courtney (Jane Lee), Jamie Courtney (Madonna); grandchildren, Kelli Nichole Mattox (Danny), Michael (Kent) Jones II (Devin), Taylor Porter, Hunter Porter, Maria Duvall, Brandon Coons (Mackenzie), James Coons, Charles D. Courtney III (Trey), Carter Courtney, Janette Baker (Steve), David Ray Courtney (Theresa), Michael Joe Courtney (Nicki), Danny Courtney (Tonya), Carrie Fletcher (Richie), Heather Courtney (Dave), Sharon Blair (Mark), Scotty True (Carol), and Dana True Cunningham. Also surviving are great grandchildren Bayleigh Mattox, Devin M. Jones, Aggi Kate Mattox, Elijah Duvall, Braylen Duvall, Calen Duvall, Scout Coons, Matthew Baker (Kaitlyn), Justin Baker (Isabella), Stephanie Baker, Alexandria Courtney, Lucas Courtney, Nicholas Courtney, Ayden Courtney, Libby Courtney, Jameson Hudnall, Eric Blair, Jonathan Blair (Lily), Bradley True, Andrew True, Justice Reed (Brandi), Leslie Cunningham, Carley Cunningham; great great grandchildren Oliver Baker, Boone Henderson, Kylie True, Liam True, Logan True, Addisyn Reed, Stryker Reed, and Branch Reed. Other survivors are her sisters, Helen Webb, Phyllis Webb; sister-in-law, Clemmie Stanfield; along with extended family and friends.

Preceding Betty in death was her husband, Charles David Courtney, Sr., a son, David Courtney (Linda and Betty); a daughter, Mary Nell Stacy; a very special granddaughter, Beth Courtney; son-in-law Chet Coons; her three brothers, Bobby Stanfield (Bernice), Doug Stanfield (Sandra), and Michael A. Stanfield.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation with Rev. Daniel Fister officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with casket bearers being Kelli Nichole Mattox, Kent Jones, Devin Jones, Taylor Porter, Hunter Porter, Maria Duvall, Brandon Coons, James Coons, Elijah Duvall, Trey Courtney, and Carter Courtney. Honorary bearers are Dr. Murray West, Mike Jones, Tom Porter, Danny Mattox, Marie Halpin, Benjamin Webb, and J.C. True. Visitation will be on Friday evening, December 30, 2022, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, 5 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Betty Lou Stanfield Courtney will be missed by many as “Mom was love in every sense of the word.”
