Obituary for Charles Thomas "Tom" Skeen

Charles Thomas “Tom” Skeen, husband of Toni DeNitto Skeen, to whom he was married for 58 years, departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at his home with family by his side, having attained the age of 80 years. Tom was born in Lexington, Kentucky on March 10, 1942, the son of the late Jasper T. and Anne Catherine Holland Skeen, was a 1959 graduate of Lexington Catholic School, attended La Crosse Seminary, La Crosse, Wisconsin, Saint Pius X in Erlanger, and Eastern Kentucky University. He was an insurance investigator for Retail Credit Company; assistant manager at Kentucky Bank, then he began the secondary mortgage loan department; and President and CEO of Kentucky Bank Federal Savings and Loan in Georgetown, Kentucky. After retiring, he worked for Peoples Exchange Bank, opening a branch in Georgetown, and then fully retired in 2005. He was elected twice to the Paris Independent School board where he served as chairman for both terms; a member of the Lexington Mortgage Bankers, served two terms as president of the Kentucky Mortgage Bankers Association; worked many years on the chain gang at Paris High School football team; was a YMCA board member for several years; was on the Board of Directors for Kentucky Bank; coached Little League for many years; and was a member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation.

Along with his wife Toni, they have a daughter, Kimberly Ann (John) Houlihan, a son, Charles Thomas Skeen, II, who preceded Tom in death in January of 2021, their daughter, Jennifer DeNitto (Richard) Hinkson; grandchildren, Victoria (Adam) Ridgway, Jared (Taylor) Hinkson, Veronica Hinkson, Holland Houlihan, Johnie Hinkson, Leah Hinkson, and Austin Skeen. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Tommy John Ridgway, Elizabeth DeNitto Hinkson; nieces and nephews, Matthew Bowman, Robert Eggleston, Jr., Laura Eggleston Morgan, and Todd Eggleston; his sisters-in-law, Rita DeNitto Young, Mary DeNitto, and Joy (Tim Snyder) DeNitto. His sister, Carolyn Skeen Eggleston, also preceded him in death.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Catholic Church of Annunciation with Rev. Daniel Fister officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery with casket bearers being Richard Hinkson, Matt Bowman, John Houlihan, Jared Hinkson, Rob Zoller, and Tod Parrish. Visitation will be on Monday evening, February 27, 2023, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.
