Obituary for Dolores Darland (Conrad)

Dolores Conrad Darland, widow of JD Darland, to whom she was married to for 53 years, departed this life on Wednesday morning, April 20, 2022, at Morning Pointe in Lexington, with family by her side, having attained the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 9 days. Dolores was born on November 11, 1930, in Nicholas County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ottie and Edith Conrad. She was a graduate of Headquarters High School, attended cosmetology school in Lexington, and later worked for many years as a hairdresser in Lexington and later as a bookkeeper at Kentucky Business Machines. She, with her husband and children, joined Porter Memorial Baptist Church on October 8, 1972, where she served her Lord in many capacities until her health would no longer allow. During these many years, she was active in the Joy Sunday School Class, the Senior Adult Ministry, and touched many lives writing notes to visitors, shut-ins, and those sick in the hospital, as a part of the church’s card ministry.

In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Conrad.

Surviving are her children, Dale Darland and his wife Ann, Jeff Darland and his wife Karen, Janet Goldthorpe and her husband Jack, all of Lexington, Kentucky. Also surviving are grandchildren; Justin and Jamie Darland, Conley and Claire Darland, and Megan Goldthorpe; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Darland and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The private graveside service, officiated by Celebrant Sharon L. Berry, will be held at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens with interment to immediately follow.
