Obituary for Donald Hiles

Jess Donald “Don” Hiles, husband of Paulada Sosby Hiles, departed this life on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Bourbon Community Hospital, at the age of 92 years. Don was born on April 10, 1930, in Georgetown, Kentucky, the son of the late Jess and Cecil Riddle Hiles, was a graduate of Great Crossing High School, as well as LSU Banking School, and after high school entered the Navy. Upon returning from serving his country, he attended business school in Lexington, worked in small business finance, then went to work at National Bank. He later became President of Peoples Bank in Berea, Richmond Bank, and was the retired owner of Bourbon Hardware & Hardware Center. In his spare time he loved watching U.K. football and basketball, going to Keeneland, enjoyed playing golf, and loved spending time with his family. He was active in the community and serving the church of which he was a member, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J. T. Hiles, Russell Hiles, and a nephew, Tom Hiles.

Along with his wife Paulada, he is survived by a son, James Edward “Jamie” (Lesley) Hiles; three grandchildren, Jakob Edward Hiles, Sophia Annelyse Hiles, and Ian James Hiles. Also surviving are three nieces, Joyce Hiles, Susan Perkins, and Shelly Miller.

The funeral service for Jess Donald “Don” Hiles will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Rev. Nancy Jo Kemper and Rev. Jeff Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Paris Cemetery with casket bearers being Phil Grigson, Will Brophy, Ernie Elmore, Ralph Hensley, Chad Smart, and Larry Estes. Honorary bearers are Jim Hague, Doug Sharp, Steve Morrison, Ron McFadden, and Eddie Sosby. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until time for the service.
