Obituary for Edwin Anthony Woods

Edwin Anthony Woods, husband of Garnetta Mollie Yazell Woods, departed this life on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Bourbon Heights of non-related COVID issues, with his wife by his side, having attained the age of 94 years. Edwin was born on March 30, 1926, in Paris, Kentucky, the son of the late Edwin and Margaret Schwartz Woods. He was affectionately known as Eddie to all his family and friends. He lived in Bourbon County all his life, was a lifelong member of the Church of Annunciation, having received his education from St. Mary’s and was a graduate of Paris High School. He was retired from the United States Postal Service where he worked as a letter carrier for thirty-nine years, after serving his country in the United States Army in World War II, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Holy Name Society men’s group, organized the annual HNS fish fry for over fifty years, as well as many other HNS projects, and had, for many years served his church faithfully as an usher, alter server, Parish Council member and president, collection counter, coach of church sports teams, and overseer of the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Eddie and Mollie loved entertaining family members and friends with their annual Christmas party and sharing their displays of manger scenes and Christmas villages. He was loved and will be remembered by countless in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Mollie Yazell Woods, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Woods; three sisters, Anita Fightmaster Jennings, Betty Rice, and Margie Woods.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. for Edwin Anthony Woods at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation with Father Daniel Fister officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with casket bearers being, Tommy Woods, Jay Price, Travis Yazell, Tony Rankin, Steven Plummer, Mark Bentley, David Tucker, Steve Fightmaster, Joey Fightmaster, and Brian Cozine. Honorary bearers will be his nieces and nephews, Dorothy Farris, Becky Bassett, members of the Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus. Visitation will be on Sunday night, December 13, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
