Obituary for Evelyn Rose Marshall (Gibson)

Evelyn Rose Gibson Marshall, age 90, widow of Shirley B. Marshall, formerly of Paris, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, at Central Baptist Hospital on June 16, 2021 following a short illness (not Covid).

Evelyn was born in 1931 to the late Ollie and Nancy Wood Gibson in Winchester, KY. She worked as hard as her 4 brothers on the family farm cutting tobacco and planting crops, making her the strong and hard-working woman that she was known to be. She was a member of Paris First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughter Debbie (Rick) Pridemore, grandson Matthew (Mary) Pridemore. She is also survived by four great-granddaughters, Mykayla, Madison, Skylar and Maggie.

Evelyn is also survived by a very large Gibson-Marshall extended family including her brother Albert Larkin (Nellie) Gibson, sister-in-law Carolyn Schietz, brother-in-law John (Mary Kay) Marshall, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Shirley B. Marshall in 1991, her son Gary Marshall in 2016 and her granddaughter Briana Rose Marshall Alvarez in 2017. Three brothers, Ralph, Eugene and Jimmy Gibson, preceded her in death along with brother-in-law Phillip Marshall, sisters-in-law, Bobbie Marshall, Margaret Marshall Alexander and Betty Faye Marshall Dean.

Evelyn was known as Mom, Granny, Sis, Aunt Rose, Aunt Evelyn, Wife, Cousin, Daughter and Friend. She was an extremely kind, caring and wonderful lady who loved her family and the loss of Evelyn will be felt by many who loved her.

Per her wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift in her honor is suggested to Sayre Christian Village Resident Honor Fund, 3775 Belleau Wood Drive, Lexington, KY 40517 or sayrechristianvillage.org/support. Mom was a resident at Sayre Christian Village Health Center during COVID and up until her recent illness. We are forever grateful to the kind, caring staff at Sayre that cared for and loved Mom and special thanks to the staff at Central Baptist Hospital these last two weeks.

Written with love by Deborah Lynn Marshall Pridemore who was lucky enough to call her mom.
