Obituary for John Lynn Galloway

John Lynn Galloway, 79, husband of Karen Hutchinson Galloway, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 9, 2020 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was born April 25, 1940, in Winchester, Kentucky son of the late Jessie E. and Paulina Owen Galloway. John was a 1958 graduate of North Middletown High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Morehead State College in 1962 and was on Morehead’s very first golf team, winning the first match in the history of the school.
John was a member and longtime board member of the Paris Rotary Club; a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow; past president of the Paris-Bourbon County Chamber of Commerce; past president of the Paris Band Boosters; member of the North Middletown Alumni Association; former board member and past president of the Stoner Creek Country Club; a member of Paris First United Methodist Church; and was an avid golfer. He retired from Commonwealth Life Insurance Company in 1982 and later was the owner of Thomas-Woodford Insurance Agency from 1982 – 2005.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Karen; two daughters, Kelly (Vince) Willoughby, Beth (Joel) Wilson; five grandchildren, Stephen (Emmie) Willoughby, Grant Willoughby, Emily Willoughby, Adam Wilson, Sarah Wilson; a brother, Dr. Harry (Sue) Galloway; his special dog, Gracie; and several nieces and nephews. In John’s own words, “My gifts to the world were two fantastic daughters who between them had five incredible grandchildren and a loving, beautiful wife of 50 plus years. All of them are very successful and married respectable people. Love them all and they have made me look good.”
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Paris First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Paris Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eliseo A. Mejia officiating. Casket bearers will be Tony Horn, Joe Fast, Ken Berry, Tom Berry, Don Perkins, and Clyde Parsons. Honorary bearers will be Lucy Jackson, Ron Haney, Roger Clark, Ethel Welsh, Miles Pope, Art Walters, Bruce Forsythe, and all of his golf buddies at Houston Oaks. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Paris First United Methodist or Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
Family and friends are also invited to remember John’s life on his birthday, April 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Houston Oaks.
