Obituary for Martha Lee Poe (Hudnall )

Martha Lee Hudnall Poe, wife of Roy Elvest Poe for 67 years, departed this life unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Bourbon Community Hospital, having attained the age of 85 years. She was born August 5, 1935 in Clark County, KY, the daughter of the late Hallie C. and Lola Dent Rankin Hudnall, was a graduate of Paris High School and the University of Kentucky, where she received her Bachelors, Masters, and Rank I in Education. While teaching for Bourbon County Schools in the Business Department, she served as the FBLA advisor, as well as being the yearbook sponsor; she was active in the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association as well as the Bluegrass Retired Teachers Association where she held offices in both; a member of the Kentucky Association of Parliamentarians and National Association of Parliamentarians, where she also held several offices; was a member of A.D.K.; and a member of First Baptist Church where she served in many leadership roles such as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Sunbeams and G.A. leader, was the first handbell director, and was a member of the choir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Elizabeth Dryden, Mildred Finn, Peggy Yazell, Hallie Hudnall, Jr., William “Hotshot” Hudnall, Bobby Joe Hudnall, and Tommy Hudnall.

In addition to her husband Roy, she is survived by a daughter, Pam (Danny) Biddle; a son, David (Rachel) Poe; and a sister, Patty Carpenter. Also surviving are her grandsons, Logan (Hillary) Poe, Bryan (Tara) Poe, and Aaron Poe (special friend Mady); three step grandsons, Clint (Leslie) Biddle, C.J. (Mandy) Biddle, Dillon Biddle; great granddaughter, Lilly Poe; step great grandchildren, Conner Biddle, Cameron Biddle, Grace Biddle; sisters-in-law, Ramona Poe Hurst and Alice W. Hudnall.

The private funeral service for Martha Lee Hudnall Poe will be at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Kyle Sullivan and Dr. Howard Beauman. The service will be webcast and can be seen on the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home website beginning February 6, 2021. Interment will be in Paris cemetery.
