Richard Joseph Getty died on December 18, 2009 at age 86 after a lengthy illness and under Hospice care at Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris, Kentucky. He was born in Freeport, Pennsylvania on May 6, 1923. He graduated from Tarentum High School in Tarentum, PA in 1941 and attended the University of Kentucky obtaining an undergraduate degree and a Law Degree in 1951. Mr. Getty also served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. Getty, Saxonburg, PA and Yolanda Persichetti Getty, Tarentum, PA; a brother, Fred Getty, Natrona Heights, PA; a daughter, Yolanda Carole Richardson, Frankfort, KY and her mother, Carole Lynch Getty, Paris, KY. Mr. Getty is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sue Getty, Paris, KY; a son, Richard A. (Mary Ann) Getty, Lexington, KY; a stepdaughter, Carolyn (Gary) Childress, Millersburg, KY; a stepson, William Bridges, Millersburg, KY; and a sister, Mary Louise Killian, Brackenridge, PA. Mr. Getty is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Portland, OR, Sesamie Bradshaw, Frankfort, KY, Clay Getty, Louisville, KY, Katherine Getty, Austin, TX, Livingston Getty, Lexington, KY, Sarah Getty, Lexington, KY, Nicole, Gary Lee, Beth Ann, Katie Childress, Millersburg, KY, and Branson and Wyatt Bridges, Millersburg, KY; and three great grandchildren, Finn and Sawyer Smith, Portland, OR and Jaden Rogers, Frankfort, KY. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, Paris, KY. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Getty will be taken to St. Mary's Church in New Kensington, PA and thereafter laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Lower Burrell, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
