Obituary for Samuel Florence "Sammy" Wagoner Jr.

Samuel Florence Wagoner, Jr., widower of Oleta Jewell Ritchie Wagoner, of Paris, departed this life on November 20, 2019 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington, having attained the age of 93 years. He was born on January 23, 1926, the son of the late Samuel Florence Wagoner, Sr. and Gustava Love Mattox Wagoner. After attending Millersburg Elementary and Millersburg High School, Uncle Sam pulled him out of school when in the 11th grade, and he became an Engineer in the Army from April 22, 1944 until June 16, 1946, holding the rank of Corporal when discharged from Camp Atterbury, Indiana. His special recognitions were 5 Battle Stars: France, Germany, Holland, Belgian, and Austria. After his military discharge, he retired from driving a truck for Ecklar Moore and Roadway, and a school bus driver for handicapped children in the Bourbon County School system. He was a faithful, loving husband and father, had many friends, was a farmer and a member of Herrington United Methodist Church. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Wagoner, a grandson, Samuel Wagoner, and a stepmother, Angie Fleckenstine Wagoner.
Surviving are his children, Wayne Wagoner and wife Ruby, Jarvis Wagoner and wife Tina, and a daughter-in-law, Diane Wagoner. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Michelle Blackburn (Dean), Cristina Wilburn (Roger), Michael Wagoner (Jennifer), Mandy Wagoner (Michael E.), Derrick Wagoner (Marian), Kain Wagoner (Chelsea), Jordan Wagoner (Farrah), and Jacob Wagoner, as well as 10 great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Samuel Florence Wagoner, Jr., will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Mooneyhan, Rev. Gaylord Gillispie and Rev. April Jolly officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with casket bearers being Kain Wagoner, Jordan Wagoner, Jacob Wagoner, Dean Blackburn, Roger Wilburn, Derrick Wagoner, Michael Wagoner, Kade Wagoner, and Michael E. Wagoner. Honorary bearers are Doug Martin, Jim Fryman, Coleman Gillispie, Bruce Wagoner, Allen DeAtley, Charlie DeAtley and Tommy Gillispie. The family request friends to call at the funeral home on Friday evening, November 22, 2109, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
