Obituary for Sue Sutherland (Flynn)

Sue Flynn Sutherland, widow of Edward “Bubba” Hutchcraft Sutherland, departed this life on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at her residence with family by her side, having attained the age of 96 years. Sue was born in Dade County, Florida on September 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Edward Joseph Flynn and Reba Burrow Flynn Shannon, was a graduate of Miami Beach High School and received her Bachelor of Science in horticulture from the University of Kentucky. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Bourbon County Homemakers, active in the Bargain Box, as well as the June Stanley Circle at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she was a member, Elder, Deacon, Elder Emeritus, and member of the Hanna Sunday School Class. After retiring from Paris High School as the head of the Title 1 program, she retired to the logs at Lake Carmico; enjoyed working in the yard and taking the pontoon out on the lake.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathi (John) Vance, Marti Wornall; two grandchildren, Chris Vance, Kassie (Matthew) Popp; and great grandchildren, Ella Vance, Kaylie Popp, Ashlyn Popp. Also surviving are two nephews, Joe Flynn, and Jack Flynn.

The family would like to acknowledge a special appreciation to her sitters, Charlene Garr, Kathy Stout, Judy Blankenship, Brittany Sampson, and her Hospice team.

The funeral for Sue Flynn Sutherland will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Rev. Jeff Bell officiating. Interment will be in Paris cemetery with casket bearers being Tinder Harris, Jim Henson, William G. McClintock, Matthew Popp, Chris Vance, and John Vance. Honorary bearers are Woody Clark, Jack Flynn, Joe Flynn, Jody Goodman, June Stanley Circle, Rodney Hatton, Ray Mercker, Dr. Murray West, Bruce Wornall, and the Hanna Sunday School Class. Visitation will be at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home on Monday, December 6, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Mask will be mandatory for both the visitation and the funeral.
