Alan Kent Gaitskill, 67, Lexington, husband of Sonja Oldson Gaitskill, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007. He was born May 22, 1939 in Fayette County, son of the late Melvin Thomas and Dorothy Harborne Gaitskill, and was a graduate of Paris High School and the University of Kentucky. Kent was retired from the telecommunications field, a newly licensed realtor, and was a well known musician, bass player, and singer who performed with many different musicians. He was a founding member of St. Raphael's Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir, served on the Vestry and on a search committee for a new pastor, and served as a Senior Warden. Kent is also survived by two daughters, Whitney Gaitskill (Frank) Curci, Bardstown, Kimberly Gaitskill Hurst, Lexington; five grandchildren, Alan Michael, Adam Kent, and Samantha Marie Curci, Brandon and Kristen Hurst; a great granddaughter, Jada Brooke; and his faithful dog and companion, Sam. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, at St. Raphael's Episcopal Church, 1891 Parkers Mill Road, Lexington, by Rev. Sally Boelter followed by a luncheon and jam session. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery. Casket bearers will be David O'Neill, Russell Kenney, Shyjak Miller, Lafayette Gant, Nicky Moore, and Terry McDonough. Honorary bearers will be his fellow musicians. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Raphael's Episcopal Church. Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, Paris, is in charge of arrangements.
