Alma Katherine O'Neill Stapleton died Monday, February 21, 2011 at Edgemont Health Care in Cynthiana, KY. She was born November 11, 1910 in Paris, Kentucky to Gillard and Mae Holmes Neal.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Pete O'Neill and James Stapleton; and two sisters, Ava Lee (Howard) Hamilton and Hattie (Hanson) West.
She attended Paris Elementary School and Paris High School.
Survivors include one son, David (Mickey) O'Neill; two grandchildren, Dana Mitchell and James O'Neill; three great grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Mitchell, Ashley O'Neill, Dustin O'Neill; and two great, great grandchildren, Megan and Maria Mitchell.
Mrs. Stapleton had been in the restaurant business all her life. She owned and operated Neal's Restaurant on the corner of Pleasant and Tenth Street in Paris until about 1954. She had been a caterer at the Central Kentucky Woman's Club in Lexington and operated Cottrell's Restaurant on Main Street in Lexington. She had also been a hostess and Cateress at Duncan Tavern in Paris until 1990. She was a former owner of the Kentucky Colonel Restaurant and Motel in Cynthiana, Kentucky.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, at the First United Methodist Church in Paris with the service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Paris Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be James O'Neill, Dustin O'Neill, Christopher Mitchell, Ben Basone, Josh Basone, Cary Barr, and Robert Barr.
