Anne Clay Thomas Baldwin, daughter of the late Clarence Thomas Baldwin and Anne Clay Hinkle Baldwin, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. She was born in Paris, Kentucky on August 12, 1946 and was a proud, lifelong Kentuckian. After graduating from Paris High School and Transylvania University, she obtained her Masters of Education from the University of Louisville. She was a lifelong educator who devoted a substantial part of her career to children with special needs, particularly those suffering from chemical dependency and mental illness.
"A.T." had numerous interests. She was a member of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, as well as a member of both the Children and Daughters of the American Revolution. Her free time was divided amongst her family, her beloved pets, and travelling the world, most recently a life affirming trip to India in 2012. A.T. was a lifelong parishioner at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, through which she completed the Education for Ministry program, one among many other spiritual studies. Throughout all of A.T's physical and spiritual journeys, her family homestead, Buknore, was always her favorite place to return home to with her numerous four legged friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved aunts and uncle, Dr. Nancy Hinkle Holland, Susan Taliaferro Hinkle, Mary Hinkle Hoffman, and Buckner Hinkle, Sr. She is survived by her two children, Thomas Barrow Stephens (Boyce Leigh) of Lexington, KY and Nancy Lindley Phillips (Mark Dudley, Jr.) of Nicholasville, KY. Also surviving are her adoring grandchildren, Mark Dudley Phillips, III, Elizabeth Barrow Buchanan Stephens, and Robert Walker Phillips, a brother Boone Buckner Baldwin (Rebecca), a niece Amy Baldwin Sommer, and her godchildren, Gilbert Morrison Ellis, III and Russell Daniel Ellis. Also predeceasing and surviving are her canine friends, too numerous to mention, but all beneficiaries of her never failing love and affection.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chadwick Walters, Anna Elizabeth Rice, John Barnette, Sue Montgomery, and Melissa Boggs, for the care and affection they provided A.T. through her extended illness. The memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Paris, KY on August 23rd at 5:30 p.m. The Reverend Chris Brannock-Warner and the Reverend Michael Carlisle will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Janine Denton Auslander, Mrs. Ann Boyd Brandow, Mrs. Barbara Daniel Ellis, and Mrs. Woodford Reynolds Henegar.
The family suggests contributions to the Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) or St. Peter's Episcopal Church in lieu of flowers. Hinton Turner is in charge of arrangements.
