Anne Clay Hinkle Baldwin, 97, eldest daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Susan Clay Hinkle, widow of Clarence Thomas Baldwin, died March 13, 2010 at Buknore, her family home. She was preceded in death by her brother, Buckner Hinkle; sisters, Mary Hinkle Hoffman, Susan Taliaferro Hinkle, and Dr. Nancy Hinkle Holland. Born January 15, 1913 in Kansas City, MO, she moved with her family to Bourbon County at the request of her grandfather following the death of her grandmother. After her husband died, she resided in Paris, KY for a short time before moving back to Buknore in 1968. She resided there with her sister, Susan, for forty-one years until her passing in December. Survivors include one daughter, Anne Clay Thomas Baldwin; a son, Boone Buckner Baldwin (Becky); three grandchildren, Amy Baldwin Sommer, Nancy Lindley Phillips (Mark), Thomas Barrow Stephens (Leigh); four great grandchildren, Clay Sommer, Lauren Sommer, Mark Phillips, III, and Elizabeth Barrow Stephens. Survivors also include her sister-in-law, Sally Spears Hinkle; brother-in-law, Dr. Phillip Holland; one niece, Susan Hoffman Combs; four nephews, Buckner Hinkle, Jr., Henry Hinkle, Tom Hinkle, Miller Hoffman; eight great nieces; and seven great nephews. She was a beloved mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother. She graduated from Paris High School and Transylvania College where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Mrs. Baldwin was a sixty year member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She served her faith in many capacities; among these were Sunday School teacher and pianist, president of the women's group, and head of the altar guild for many years. As a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she acted as sponsor for the Children of the American Revolution. She was a life time member of the Daughter of the Barons of Runeymead. Mrs. Baldwin was an employee of Hinkle Contracting Company for over twenty-five years. She will be remembered for her love of plants and people. Her sense of humor was legendary. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church by Rev. Donavan Cain with burial to follow at the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Buckner Hinkle, Jr., Henry Hinkle, Thomas S. Hinkle, J. Miller Hoffman, Sayre Combs, and Lockhart Hinkle. Honorary bearers will be Winstead Thomas Buckner, Dr. John Grubbs, Sally Spears Hinkle, and Dr. Phillip Holland. The family wishes to recognize Ruth Bartlett, Lucy Davenport, Kathy Setters, Christy Bartlett, and Anna Rice for the special care they provided. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Contributions in her honor are requested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
