Barbara Henry Bryan Stephens, Lexington, wife of William A. Stephens, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Nannie Clarke Howell and Garnett Browne Henry. She was born in North Middletown, KY on September 21, 1933. Barbara was a long-term caregiver of her handicapped daughter, Andrea, and very involved in establishing The Bourbon County Association for the Mentally Handicapped. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, she enjoyed an extensive modeling career, along with her employment at The Lafayette Galleries in the Lexington Civic Center. As a child, she competed in many saddlebred horse show events with much success, and attended Sullins College. During her life, she enjoyed nothing more than basking in the sun with a good novel and one of her many pets at her side, especially her wire haired fox terrier, Tiger, and her tabby cat, Max. Barbara is also survived by her children, Bonnie (Steve) Thornton, Lexington, Andrea Bryan, LaGrange, William B. (Susan) Bryan, Jr., Lexington, Aimee (David) Severson, Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, Mitchell and Clarke Thornton, Dave Tyler, Todd, Talbott, and Dylan Severson; and two cousins, Betty Ann Sharp and Bennett Young, Jr. The family expresses special appreciation to her caregivers, Patty Haney and Cassie Wickline. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Ron Berry with burial in the North Middletown Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mitchell Thornton, Clarke Thornton, Dave Tyler Severson, Todd Severson, Talbott Severson, Dylan Severson, Lew Sharp, Jr., Mike Sharp, and Charles Clay. Honorary bearers will be Steve Thornton, David Severson, Jim Grigsby, Bennett Young, Jr., F.C. Bryan, Henry Prewitt, H.D. Jasper, Jeff Layson, Steve Spears, Betsy Warner, Dr. Barry Purdom, and Frank Howard. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, PAWS, or Cedar Lake Lodge.
