Betty Hinkle Florence, 84, of Little Rock, secretary for Bourbon County Emergency Management, widow of Ira Clayton Florence, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014. She was born July 12, 1930 in Bourbon County, daughter of the late Allen Thurman Gibbs and Mary Elizabeth Parsons Hinkle. Betty was a graduate of North Middletown High School, was employed by Emergency Management since 1968, active in Operation Food Basket for 25 years, founder of the Little Rock Volunteer Fire Department, delivered the local newspaper to the residents of Little Rock, and was a member of Little Rock Christian Church. She is survived by a son, William Clayton (Willa) Florence; a daughter, Mary Allen Hedges, both of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Allen Hedges, Chad (Jennifer) Hedges, Jeanna (Arick) Abney, Brad Florence, Julie (Robert) Tamayo, Dawn Griffieth Engle, Chris (Wendee) Griffieth; and fourteen great grandchildren, Kaitlin, Ashley, Lindsey, and Lauren Hedges, McKenzie and Jack Engle, Aricka Abney, Abby, Tatiana, and Jon Carlos Tamayo, Kalynn Holbrook, Emma and Jacob Owen Griffieth, and Christopher Hinkle. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Elaine Cook; a sister, Mary Doyle; and three brothers, Brooks, Richard, and Charles Ray Hinkle. The family expresses special appreciation to Dr. Nathan L. Moore, Dr. C. Ray Young, and Dr. James Bean for the care given to Mrs. Florence. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Rex Graham with burial in North Middletown Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Allen Hedges, Chad Hedges, Brad Florence, Chris Griffieth, Mike Withrow, Carl McGlone, Charles Johnson, and Jeff Ritchie. Honorary bearers will be Shain Stephen, Clint Graves, Don Menke, Donnie Wasson, Arick Abney, Robert Tamayo, Jim Shaw, Rex Rawlings, Joe Parker, and Rufus Hartman Jr. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
