Carl Garnett Brunker, 74, Cypress Street, retired employee of the Lexington-Bluegrass Army Depot-Avon Activity, U.S. Navy veteran, widower of Jean Hatton Brunker, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the VA Medical Center. He was born December 27, 1935 in Bourbon County, son of the late Joe Raymond "Jack" and Garnetta Whirles Brunker and was a member of Russell Cave Baptist Church. Carl loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting but his passion was for bluegrass music. You could always find him on Tuesday afternoon at Akemon's Barber Shop playing with his band, Kentucky Bound. The band would go around and play at nursing homes, which they all enjoyed. They loved giving back to the community. Carl was well known throughout the Bluegrass circuit for his banjo picking and grinning. Carl is survived by a son, Eric Wayne (Charmayne) Brunker, Lexington; three grandchildren, Stevie Lynn Brunker, Nicole Dawnyelle Brunker, Kevin Wayne Brunker; five great grandchildren, Wesley, Matthew, Katie, Jasmyne, and Korey Brunker; and two sisters, Judi (William) Finn, Paris, and Joetta (Donnie) Myers, Crockett, TX. A son, Ricky Brunker, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Timothy W. Pierce with burial in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be Tony Horn, Joe Akemon, Charlton Cox, James D. Myers, Stevie Lynn Brunker, Joe Brutsman, and Doug Webb. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Friday.
