Carl Douglas Smart, 71, Brent Street, veteran of the U.S Air Force, Navy, and Army, husband of Ruby Mann Smart, died Tuesday, June 07, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center. He was born August 25, 1939 in Paris, son of the late Carl Franklin and Virginia Carlisle Swinford Smart. Carl was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Fraternal Order of Police, D.A.V. Chapter 12, and was a Kentucky Colonel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nora Virginia (Billy) Thomas, Paris, Laura Lynn Smart (Jeff Middleton), Berea; a son, Carl Franklin (Debbie) Smart, Bourbon County; four grandchildren, Brian Prather, Paris, Dustin (Nicole) Morgan, Lexington, Sean Thomas (Bianca Manley), Lexington, Joshua Byrd, Paris; two great grandchildren, Madolynn Morgan, Aiden Thomas; three brothers, Harry (Gerry) Smart, Fredericksburg, VA, Tom (Marie) Smart, Paris, Ron Smart, Paris; godchild, Dayshona Ragland; and special friends, Dallas and Cheryl Osborne, North Middletown, James Douglas (Elizabeth) Bartlett, Paris, and Kirk and Val Ragland, Lexington. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at the First Christian Church by Rev. Jeff Bell and Rev. Kirk Ragland with burial in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Brian Prather, Dustin Morgan, Sean Thomas, Joshua Byrd, Kenney Tipton, and Harry Stanfield Jr. Members of D.A.V. Chapter 12 will serve as honorary bearers. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass. www.hinton-turnerfuneralhome.com
