Charles Edward Thorpe, 75, Oak Hill Drive, Lexington, retired UK Hospital maintenance superintendent, US Air Force veteran of the Korean War, husband of Mary Spivey Thorpe, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at his home. He was born July 18, 1931 in Fayette County, son of the late Charles D. and Anna Lucille Stevenson Tharp, a graduate of the Fayette County schools, a Kentucky Colonel, and was a member of the Tates Creek Christian Church. Mr. Thorpe is also survived by a daughter, Esther Y. (Terry) McDaniel, Winchester; a son, Tracy Mark (Michelle) Thorpe, Corbin; four grandchildren, Tracie Lynn Wilson, Lexington, Trevor M. Thorpe, Johnna Beth Thorpe, Jeremy Mocahbee, all of Corbin; a great granddaughter, Ezra Lynn Wilson; a sister, Alice Hess; and two brothers, Jessie (Norma) Thorp and Willie (Kathy) Thorpe, all of Paris. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Thorpe; a sister, Eunice Burger; and his twin sister, Bonnie Juanita Tharp. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Tates Creek Christian Church by Rev. Tommy Simpson and Rev. Mike Faust with interment in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ken Baker, Robert McCullough, and the members of the FOB Sunday School Class of Tates Creek Christian Church. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Scott Pierce, Dr. Clark Bailey, and members of the FOB Sunday School Class. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, Paris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504, Tates Creek Christian Church, 3150 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, KY 40502, or the Lymphoma Society, 836 Euclid Avenue, Suite 303, Lexington, KY 40502.
