Florence Elizabeth Day, 101, retired employee of Lexington-Bluegrass Army Depot, Avon Activity, widow of Charles Day, Sr., died Monday, December 17, 2007 at Bourbon Heights Nursing Home. She was born September 16, 1906 in Nicholas County, daughter of the late John Milton and Julia Catherine Day Thomas, and attended Millersburg High School. She and her husband of 62 years were members of the First Church of God. She left her mark on countless other lives and remained faithful to God until her death. Mrs. Day is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ivodene Day, Lexington. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Day, Jr.; a sister, Lulu Thomas Mason; and two brothers, Clarence and Ermine "Joe" Thomas. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Charles Shrewsbury with interment in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be E.J. Caswell, William Hubbard, David Mefford, Bradley Purcell, Ron Mingua, Kent Robertson, and Bane Robertson. Honorary bearers will be Howard Phillips, Charles Fryman, Tommy Vaughn, Dr. Nathan Moore, Wallace Brown, George Cunningham, Wayne McCord, and Billy Mason. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. The family expresses many thanks to the Bourbon Heights Nursing Home staff and Dr. Nathan Moore. Memorials are suggested to Bourbon Heights Activity Fund.
