Geneva Ashcraft "Gene" Johnson, 91, Lynnwood Drive, retired Hansley Mill bookkeeper, widow of Tony Johnson, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the U.K. Medical Center. She was born July 6, 1919 in Paris, daughter of the late Joe E. and Minnie Lou Carr Ashcraft, a graduate of Paris High School, and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Gene was a former Bourbon County Sheriff, co-owner of Johnson's Service Station, member of the Paris Lioness Club where she was a Past President and board member, honorary member of the Paris Lions Club, Bourbon Post #30 American Legion and Auxiliary where she served as secretary; and was a volunteer at the Bargain Box. She is survived by five nieces, Christy Southworth, Pam Clemons, Connie Fitzgerald, Vicki (James) Preacher, Cathy (Tommy) Gregory; five nephews, Henry A. Huggins III, William S. Huggins, Douglas A. Huggins, Andrew H. (Kathy) Huggins, William Earl (Kay) Curtis; and a stepson, Wayne Platt. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Ann Huggins, Dorothy "Tag" Ashcraft, and Joanna Ashcraft Spies. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church by Rev. Donavan Cain with burial in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Christopher Howard, Del Carr, John Ransdell, Larry Conrad, Andrew Huggins, David "Dusty" Minnick, William Earl Curtis, and Gayle Rees. Honorary bearers will be members of the Paris Lions Club, Bourbon Post #30 Auxiliary, and Bourbon Post #30 American Legion. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. The family expresses special appreciation to the Paris-Bourbon County Ambulance Service. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
