George Sidney Tate, husband of Charleen Tripp Burris Tate, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2007. Son of the late Mabel Katherine Taylor Tate and James Turney Tate, he was born on July 29, 1922, at Shawhan, Bourbon County, Kentucky. His brother, Paul Tate, preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Sidney Burris Tate (Linda Sauser Tate), a daughter, Katherine Tate Bernstorf (Robert Bernstorf, deceased), two grandchildren, Andrew Wimberly Tate (Carson Flowers Tate) and Jessica Lynn Teeter, and one great grandchild, Savannah Katherine Massengill. He was a graduate of Paris High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. In World War II he was a radio communications technician with the 3101st Signal Battalion, serving in the China-Burma-India Theater. After the war he joined his father and brother for 17 years in operating Main Street Market, a retail grocery in Paris. He served two terms as a Paris City Commissioner and was associated for 22 years as a Commissioner on the Bourbon County Boy's Education Fund. He was employed by the National Bank of Paris for 16 years, retiring as a Vice President. He was a past member of the Paris Lion's Club, and was a member of The Order of the Kentucky Colonels. Active bearers are Andrew Tate, Thomas Tate, Clint Caywood, James Byron Tate, Joey Price, and Jim Caywood III. Honorary bearers are members of the Christian Men's Fellowship Group, Russell Hunt, Jr., the Rev. Curtis Hunt, Charles Crain, Francis Carroll Bryan, Johnny Burris, Edsell Burris, Joe M. Manning, Dr. James Ferrell, Nelson Faulkner, Tom Kwasny, Cecil Grimes, Kelly Haley, Kenneth Kiser, Ralph Burton, R.J. Nixon, Jr., Glen Wagner, Albert Crump, Goebel Crump, Richard Eads, Jimmy Jones, Billy A. Williams, Stanton Summay, Raymond Vanhook, Stan Galbraith, Ron Burden, James Prater, Winn Hutchcraft, Charles Pasley, and Jack McKenzie. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the First Christian Church, High Street, Paris Kentucky. Services will be held at the church on Monday, March 19 at 10:30 AM, and will be conducted by the Reverend Jeff Bell and Dr. Henry Hanna. Burial will follow in the Paris Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Tommy Boardman Choir Fund or the Joey Garrison Educational Fund at the First Christian Church, or to Hospice of the Bluegrass. The Hinton-Turner Funeral Home is serving the family.
