Helen Elizabeth Hayes Whalen, 80, Cardinal Lane, homemaker and former secretary/bookkeeper for Electric Steam Corporation, wife of Allen Jennings Whalen, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Bourbon Community Hospital. She was born September 21, 1926 in Harrison County, daughter of the late Frank Mitchell and Lizzie Lee Houston Hayes, a graduate of Center Hill School, attended Fugazzi Business College, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Helen is also survived by a daughter, Sharon Elizabeth Whalen Dedman, Louisville; sister-in-law, Barbara J. Whalen, Lexington; special family friend, Jack Mullikin, Lewis County; nephew, Stanley A. Houston, Lexington; and life long friend, Ruby Penn, Cynthiana. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Jerri Williams with interment in the Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Casket bearers will be Paul Whalen, Kyle Whalen, William Whalen, Lawrence Whalen, Jack B. Mullikin, Nelson Hutson, James Prater, and Stanley Houston. Honorary bearers will be Barbara Whalen, Julie Whalen, Evelyn Mullikin, Betty Lou Morrison, J.T. Penn, Ruby Penn, and Helen Hutson. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
