James Edward Coons, Jr., 81, of Carlisle and formerly of Paris, retired logistician at the Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot, U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, husband of Patsy Harney Coons, died Thursday, November 5, 2009 at his home. He was born June 12, 1928 in Lexington, son of the late James Edward and Mary Annetta Scully Coons and was a graduate of Paris High School. He was a member of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, former president of St. Mary School PTS, former assistant Scout Master of Troop 67, former president of the Paris High School Band Boosters, and former Chairman of the Paris Independent School Board of Education. He is also survived by a daughter, Trina Coons (Bill) Bussell, Paris; two sons, Gregory Dee (Sallie) Coons, Allentown, PA, Chet David (Debbie) Coons, Paris; nine grandchildren, Megan Bussell Mattox, Emma Kate Bussell, Lauren Talbott Coons, Byron Joseph Coons, Scott David Coons, Siena Catherine Coons, Maria Duvall, Brandon Dee Coons, James Courtney Coons; three great grandchildren, Elijah Duvall, Riley Christine Bussell, Kennedy Shae Mattox; and a brother, Henry Scully Coons. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Jo Coons; and a sister, Jean Marie Pollock. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 9, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Carlisle, by Rev. John Curtis with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Paris. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, great grandson, and Dailey Earlywine, and Ron Sparks. Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters and Pete Zuniga, Sam Balsemo, Edwin Woods, Rusty Lawrence, and Gary Seibert. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with a Rosary Service at 7:30 pm. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
