James Thomas Kookendoffer, 77, Springhill Drive, retired IBM employee, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, husband of Bettye Owen Kookendoffer, died Friday, September 28, 2007 at the U.K. Medical Center. He was born November 27, 1929 in Nicholas County, son of the late William J. and Mattie Barbee Kookendoffer. Jim was a graduate of Bourbon County High School, a member of First United Methodist Church, and was a past president of the Paris High School Band Boosters. He is also survived by three daughters, Tracey Lee Kookendoffer, Betsy (Rick) Hopper, Leona (Carl) Yazell, all of Paris; five grandchildren, Kelly Yazell, Heather Yazell, Travis (Hannah) Yazell, Melissa (Robbie) Payne, all of Paris, B.J. Heflin, New Jersey; and six great grandchildren. Mr. Kookendoffer was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace, Frank, and Billy Kookendoffer; and a nephew, James Clay Kookendoffer. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with interment in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mike Kookendoffer, David Kookendoffer, Jack Crump, Curtis Crump, Alvin Stamper, David Braunig, and Neil Crump. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday.
