James Preston Shipp Sr., DDS, 97, retired dentist, U.S. Army veteran of World War II, widower of Belle Brent Woodford Shipp, died Friday, October 28, 2011 at Bourbon Heights. He was born January 18, 1914 in Georgetown, son of the late Hubert and Ethel Lucas Shipp. Dr. Shipp was a graduate of Georgetown High School, Georgetown College, and University of Louisville Dental School. He was past member and chairman of the Paris Board of Education and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Shipp is survived by two sons, James Preston (Patti Ann) Shipp Jr., Paris, Charlton Alexander (Patricia Ann) Shipp, McAllen, TX; three grandchildren, Joseph Alexander (Nancy) Shipp, Andrew Brent Shipp, Catherine Michelle (Phillip) Grinnell; and three great grandchildren, Gavin Alexander Shipp, Madelyn Belle Grinnell, and Avery Gail Grinnell. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, at Paris Cemetery Chapel by Rev. Desiree Youngblood. Casket bearers will be Buckner Woodford IV, David K. Woodford, Joseph Shipp, Andrew Shipp, Delwood Carr, and Jim West. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Bourbon Heights Activity Fund.
