Janis Lee Hitchings, 63, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center. She was born on September 2, 1947 in Punxsutawney, PA, daughter of Elizabeth Anibaldi Esposito and the late Gerald Esposito. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Hitchings, and her brother, Jeffrey Esposito. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and moved with her family to Kentucky in 1972. She later received a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Kentucky and her LCSW from the State of Kentucky, working for 30 years at the Bluegrass Regional MHMR Board as clinical social worker. Following retirement she went back to the social work she loved at Hospice of the Bluegrass in Cynthiana. She is survived by two sons, Scott Hitchings and David Hitchings, both of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Betsy Esposito, State College, PA; three brothers, Jerry (Karen) Esposito, East Sandwich, MA, John (Chantel) Esposito, Nashville, TN, Patrick Esposito, Apollo, PA; two sisters-in-law, Lucinda Esposito, Gaye (John) Hudock; special cousin, Peggy (Guy) Patrick, Berea; and a host of dear nieces and nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. She wishes to thank with all her heart the numerous dear friends who provided her support during her illness, including Hospice workers and Father John Curtis. Janis was a member of the Catholic Church of the Annunciation. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 29, at the Catholic Church of the Annunciation by Rev. John Curtis with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Scott Hitchings, David Hitchings, Jerry Esposito, John Esposito, John Hudock, and Russell Bennett. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 28, at the church with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The family wishes to invite her friends to her home for a life celebration following visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Mary School Scholarship Fund or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
