John Carter "Jack" Clay, 82, of Paris, husband of Sue Ewalt Clay, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born December 30, 1927 in Lexington, son of the late John C. and Louise Collier Clay. He was a graduate of Paris High School and the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served for two years in the United States Marine Corps. For over 50 years he ran Canewood Farm, which has been in his family for five generations. He also served as a board member of the Federal Land Bank for many years. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Paris. In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by a son, John Carter (Cindy) Clay IV of Lexington; two daughters, Laura Walker Clay (Ben) Eubank of Lexington and Cynthia Harrison Clay (James) Grohmann of Louisville; eight grandchildren, John Carter Clay V, Alexander Boyd Clay, Benjamin Park Eubank IV, Susanna Blanton Eubank, Mary Clay Eubank, James Patrick Grohmann Jr., John Harrison Grohmann, and Charles Hume Grohmann. He is also survived by a sister, Marion Clay (Daniel) Fryman of Montgomery, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Paris. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Huffman officiating. Casket bearers will be Benjamin Park Eubank IV, John Carter Clay V, Alexander Boyd Clay, Doug Clay Witt, Robert Hughes, and Larry George Case. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 517 Pleasant Street, in Paris, Kentucky.
