John W. Crump, 84, died Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Georgetown Community Hospital. He was born August 1, 1931 in Bourbon County, son of the late Emmett R. and Elizabeth Prewitt Crump. John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served until 1953. He returned to Paris and graduated Paris High School in 1955. After graduation, John went to work for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Revenue. In 1967, he volunteered for a tour of duty in Vietnam as a supply inventory specialist in ADP, receiving an award from the Secretary of the Army for civilian service. After this, John accepted a position in Rodelheim, Germany working for the U.S. Army Europe Adjutant General from 1970 to 1975. He returned to the states and was assigned to work for the Department of the Navy for the Marine Corps Logistics as a system analyst in supply operation from 1976 to 1980. John returned to Germany in June 1980 to work for the Department of Defense USAEUR 7th Army Chief of Data Processing in Stuttgart. He returned to work for the Department of the Navy Marine Corps Base in Albany, Georgia and retired on May 1, 1987 after 34 years of government service. John was an avid golfer, a member of Stoner Creek Country Club for over 50 years. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, baptized on November 4, 1945 and re-baptized on April 17, 1994. John was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Williams, Margaret Rankin; three brothers, Archie Crump, Joe Crump, Emmett R. Crump Jr.; and is survived by several nieces and nephews. The Crump family expresses special appreciation to Georg Wigglesworth and Judy Gray for their loving care. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, at First Baptist Church by Rev. Don Reed. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, PO Box 327, Paris, KY 40362-0327.
