Lida Ferguson Rogers, 91, died Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Bourbon Heights Nursing Home. She was born March 16, 1924 in Paris, daughter of the late Harvey Allen and Margret Ferguson Rogers. After she graduated from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, Lida signed up with the U.S. Navy WAVES where she was sent to Hunter College in New York for basic training, then to Cedar Falls, Iowa for six weeks of additional training, and finally to the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland, California during which time she had the opportunity to meet many dignitaries and celebrities. After receiving her discharge as a Yeoman First Class, Lida continued her studies at the University of Kentucky. She then moved to Washington, D.C. where she accepted a position with National Geographic, once again being in the position to meet numerous dignitaries. Lida eventually returned to her Kentucky roots and for the next 15 years she worked with the Kentucky State Cabinet for Human Resources. She was a member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, a member of the Bourbon County Historical Society, American Legion, and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Lida is survived by a sister-in-law, Marie C. Rogers, Lexington; nieces and nephews, Marie R. Toler, Durham, North Carolina, Jane (Tim) Lucas, Midway, Kentucky, Margaret (Michael) Jacobs, Lexington, Kentucky, Harvey Allen (Suzy) Rogers III, Lexington, Kentucky; and many great nieces and great nephews. A brother, Harvey Allen Rogers Jr., preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church by The Reverend Chris Brannock with burial in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Harvey Allen Rogers III, Tim Lucas, Michael Jacobs, Aaron Lucas, Todd Dunham, and Reid Wahlbrink. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Saint Peter's Episcopal Church.
