Marvin F. Darland, 82, of Paris and formerly of Harrodsburg, husband of Melissa Pennington Darland, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at his home. He was born June 30, 1932, son of the late Wade and Nellie Currens Darland. Marvin retired from IBM in January of 1990. However, he continued to word at various employments until becoming ill in 2012. He was employed by Davis and Davis, Sutherland Greenhouse, and Dotson Brothers of Paris. Marvin was an outstanding employee and friend to all. While serving in the U.S. Army, he fought in the Korean War. He loved his country and family. In his early years, Marvin was a very active church member and Deacon. He was a very devoted and loving husband and father. Marvin never met a stranger and was always willing to help a friend in need. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Melissa Pennington Darland; one son, Brandon Earl Darland, Paris; two daughters, Mary Jo (Mike) Lewis, Robin Claunch, both of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, Brooke and Levi Lewis, Amy and Lee Claunch, all of Harrodsburg; and several great grandchildren. Marvin had a strong bond with his niece, Jessica Sexton Barrett of Paris, who he referred to as his "adopted daughter." He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil "Toad" and Wade "Junior" Darland; and his first wife, Betty Webb Darland. Funeral services will be 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Brenda Routt. Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
