Mattie Elizabeth Williams Bowman, 85, retired Bourbon Hardware bookkeeper, wife of James C. Bowman, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Hospice Care Center. She was born July 13, 1929 in Bourbon County, daughter of the late Kenney and Lenora Young Williams, a graduate of Paris High School, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. In addition to her husband, Mattie is survived by two sons, James Martin (Susan) Bowman, Paris, Robert Noel (Renee') Bowman, Clark County; a daughter, Susan (John) Stubblefield, Paris; four grandchildren, Courtney Ballard, Lexington; Dr. Jeremy (Elizabeth) Smith, Georgetown, Megan (Brandon) Smither, Georgetown, James Ray Bowman; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Williams, Edith Smoot; and four brothers, Kenney Jr., Herman, Leonard, and Hugh Williams. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 26, at the Paris Cemetery Chapel by Rev. Gary Ellcessor. Casket bearers will be Guy Bowman, David Bowman, Herman "Tully" Williams, Phil Hurst, Dr. Jeremy Smith, and Brandon Smither. Honorary bearers will be the Sunday School teachers at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Paris Cemetery Chapel. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
