Robert Allen "Bobby" West, 62, Tampa, Florida and formerly of Paris, died Sunday, January 20, 2008. He was born September 5, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of Loredia Winburn "Rita" West, of Paris, and the late Robert C. West and was a 1963 graduate of Bourbon County High School. Bobby served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. He resided in Montana and California from 1969 to 1981 while employed by Piedmont Airlines and Hughes Air West. Following the death of his father, he returned to Paris and opened the Sunflower Restaurant on Main Street, which he co-owned with Roger Rudd until 1987. In 1987, he moved to Tampa, Florida where he was employed as manager of the garden center at Home Depot, until his retirement in 1999. Because he loved gardening, landscaping, and woodworking he decided to go into the contracting business for himself. Friends and neighbors told the family that he was the person they always called when they needed something fixed or repaired, and being a good neighbor, most of the time he would do it for free. He also enjoyed genealogy. In addition to his mother, Bobby is survived by a brother, Wayne (Cissie) West; two sisters, Barbara (Jerry) Wagoner, Carol (Tim) Lizer, all of Paris; uncles, Elmer (Jean) West, Hamilton, OH, Keith (Linda) West, Williamsburg, KY, Earl Meadors, Williamsburg, Sam Hatton, Irvine; close friend and business partner, Roger Rudd; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Don Reed with interment in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Steve West, Brian West, David Wagoner, Jeff Hendrix, Jonathan Hendrix, and Brett Vanlandingham. Honorary bearers will be special friends and neighbors in Florida, Chuck Bumpus, Dewey Garrison, Gare Allen, Rich Decker, Randy Pennington, Sharman Hurd, Joann and Wally Flagg, Everett Collier, Steve Campbell, and David Ostrom. Visitation will be 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
