Rosa Mae Buckler Poynter -- who grew the tastiest tomatoes in Bourbon County, made the best green beans and cornbread and raised a large, loving family that serves as her legacy -- died peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning, February 19th, 2011. She was 85.

Retired from the Kentucky Textiles factory in Paris, where for decades she sewed everything from Olympic swimsuits to Sloppy Joes outfits, she was best known as "Rosie" and was married to Frank Poynter, who died in 1990. Rosie loved fishing, cooking, and sitting around the kitchen table surrounded by her family. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Paris and is survived by one of her 10 siblings, Ruth Burke.

Rosie and Frank had five children -- Sue Shout and her husband Jeff; Darrell Poynter and his wife Debbie; Ronnie Poynter and his wife Lillian; Penny Fryman and her husband Woody; and Dixie Fite and her husband Gilbert. They had eight grandchildren -- Chris and Brian Poynter, Stacey Speaks, David Fite, Daniel Snyder, Jessica Shawky, Nathan Poynter and Courtney Fryman -- and seven great-grandchildren Kassy and Sam Poynter, Taesha and Amiyah Speaks, Emma and Dayne Fite and Brody Rison. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Autumn Nicole Shout.

Visitation is 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church in Paris and the funeral is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, also as the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Paris Pike. www.hinton-turnerfuneralhome.com
