Samuel Lanter, 80, Ruddles Mill Road, husband of Nancy Bishop Lanter, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Bourbon Community Hospital. He was born August 17, 1930 in Bourbon County, son of the late Carl and Lucreasie Jones Lanter. Sam was a retired IBM employee, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of Spears Mill Baptist Church. He is also survived by a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Nesbit, Mocksville, NC; a son, Samuel David (Vanessa) Lanter, Paris; four sisters, Virginia Clevenger, Galion, OH, Mary Wells, Paris, Lucreasie (Gene) Rankin, Paris, Jean Leach, Richmond; a brother, Lester Lanter, Paris; and five grandchildren, Tigre Penney, Josh Lanter, Gabrielle Lanter, Sam Nesbit, and Matt Nesbit. Funeral services will be 11 am Fri, June 3, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with burial in Jacksonville Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Billy Rankin, Wayne Myers, Monty Wells, Jerry Clark, Josh Lanter, Sam Nesbit, and Matt Nesbit. Honorary bearers will be Raymond Kitchen and the Deacons of Spears Mill Baptist Church. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to Spears Mill Baptist Church.
