Sara Frances "Sally" Meng, 67, North Middletown, retired Bellevue High School teacher and coach, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was born August 7, 1942 in Ironton, OH, daughter of the late Walter S. and Marjorie Frances Nickerson Meng, a graduate of North Middletown High School and Transylvania University, and was a member of the North Middletown Christian Church. Sally was one of the pioneers of women's sports in Northern Kentucky and was instrumental in getting her student athletes scholarships to continue their education. She was a member of the Northern Kentucky High School Athletics Directors Hall of Fame, Sports Hall of Fame, ant the Bellevue High School Hall of Fame. Sally is survived by a brother, Walter S. (Carol) Meng III, Maysville; two nephews, Steve (Joy) Meng, Long Beach, CA, John (Heather) Meng, Maysville; two nieces, Dr. Sara Meng (Rodrigo) Diaz, Carlisle, PA, Dr. Elaine (Steve) Klesius, Maryville, TN; step nephew, Adam Gilbert, Lexington; former sister-in-law, Susan Harris, Columbia, NC; best friends, Audra Rose and Susan McLaughlin, both of Cincinnati, Karen Williams, North Middletown; several great nieces and great nephews; and may other close friends. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Bob Silvanik. Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the North Middletown Christian Church of the North Middletown Cemetery.
