Shelby Lee Ogden, 82, a life long farmer, husband of 58 years to Mary Montgomery Ogden, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at his home. He was born June 13, 1925 in Jessamine County, son of the late L.R. and Nora Sponcil Ogden. Shelby was a former director for the Fayette County Farm Bureau, former director of the Federal Land Bank, and was an active member of the Antioch Christian Church since 1955, where he had served as Board Chairman, Deacon, and Elder. He is also survived by one sister, Jeanie (Allen) Easley, Paris; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Thompson, Dorothy Fain, Jane Schnell; and a brother, Roy Ogden. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Bob Mallory with interment in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John Ogden Cranfill, Paul Garrod, Barry Ogden, Steve Ogden, Dan Easley, Daryl Easley, David Easley, John White, Bobby Thompson, and R.C. Cranfill. Honorary bearers will be Jim Shaw, James Gragg, H.L. Gudgell, Bill Pridemore, Gary McFarland, Lloyd Brogle, Willis Parks, Victor Robinson, Gilbert Clifford, Jr., Howard "Bo" Pridemore, Ed Williams, Luther Bruner, Bill Riley, Maurice Edwards, Coleman Johnson, Wayne Sponcil, Jerry Sponcil, and F.M. Sponcil. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Antioch Christian Church.
