Vernon Wayne "Heavy Duty" Turner Sr., 69, of Carlisle, a retired self-employed electrician, husband of Phyllis Brooks Turner, died Friday, December 06, 2013 at Nicholas County Hospital. He was born December 4, 1944 in Bourbon County, son of the late James and Helen Toomey Turner. He attended Bourbon County schools and was a member of Paris City Club. In addition to his wife, Vernon is survived by a daughter, Roxanna Jean (Wayne) Crump, Cynthiana; three sons, Vernon Wayne Turner Jr., Cynthiana, Shannon (Dawn) Turner, Winchester, Joseph David (Sandy) Turner, Bourbon County; three stepsons, Marvin (Penny) Watkins, Gary Lee Watkins, Jonathon Watkins, all of Carlisle; two sisters, Bertha Mitchell, Debbie Foster, both of Paris; Six brothers, Billy, James, Frank, Steven, Bruce, Larry Turner; eleven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. A brother, Lester Turner, preceded him in death. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at a later date.
