Dr. William H. Cox died at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Dr. Cox is survived by two daughters and one son, William H. cox II, Bourbon County, Elizabeth B. Cox, Owensboro, and Alice Clark (Pat) Putman, St. Petersburg, FL. He is also survived by two granddaughters, one grandson, two great-grandsons, and a close friend, Hazel H. Kenney. He was predeceased by his parents, Meredith and Elizabeth Highland Cox; a son, James Cox; and two wives, Margaret Harris Cox and Jacqueline Jordan Cox.
Dr. Cox attended high school at Model High, Richmond, and transferred to Kentucky Military Institute, Louisville, where he graduated. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and served in the Pacific in World War II. After his honorable discharge, he completed his bachelor's degree at Eastern State University, Richmond, his medical degree at the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine, and his residency at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington. He established his practice in Paris, Kentucky in 1952 where he served as a primary care physician until his retirement.
He served as Board Chairman of the National Bank of Paris, was active in the Lions Club, and served on the Board of Directors at Stoner Creek Country Club. He was a gentleman farmer, an avid hunter, fisherman, and U.K. football fan.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 and funeral at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, Paris, with Reverend Jeff Bell officiating.
Casket bearers will be Steve Wornall, Bruce Wornall, Hume Wornall, Thomas Ormsby, Stephen Ormsby, and Charles Woodford. Honorary bearers will be Matthew Ferguson, Bill Fryer, R.T. Sheeler, Charles Duncan, Guy Ormsby, Jeff Layson, James Ferrell, Henry Prewitt, Dan Duty, Donald Hamm, and Frank McCracken.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
