I remember working in tobacco at Uncle Bud's and being hot and tired almost ready to give up when on a few occasions Big Jim would drive up out of nowhere. It didn't matter how dressed up he was, he would just take off the suit jacket & tie and roll up the sleeves on his white dress shirt and climb right up into the barn with us and start helping hang tobacco. I was sure glad to see him because I could almost stand up straight and still get the sticks of tobacco that he would hand up to me. The good part of that was it was a lot less work for me and a whole lot easier too. However if there was any down side it would be when the rail would start popping & cracking and we would have to stop long enough to tie or support the rail because of his size. He, as far as I know, never took any pay for his hard labor. Just seemed to enjoy his time to visit with us while we worked.
I would like to thank Jim for the much needed help in the tobacco days and the memores that I have of those days.
I would also like to remind everyone of the years of service he gave to his country. We were blessed to be part of his family.
